Imprese sacre con triplicati discorsi illustrate & arricchite ...
A volume of Paolo Aresi's Imprese sacre, a Counter-Reformation emblem book with devotional commentary, printed in Milan in 1625 by the heir of Pacifico Pontio and Gio. Battista Piccaglia for preachers and devout readers. The woodcuts are printer's ornaments: inhabited initials with acanthus and flowers, and tailpiece masks flanked by scrolls, grotesque heads and hanging tassels, all in coarse black hatching.
