Inauguration of new galleries, works from the salon of '84 and other American paintings contributed by the artists
An 1884 exhibition catalogue issued by the American Art Association in New York to open its new galleries, listing Salon of '84 works and other paintings contributed by the artists themselves for prospective buyers and gallery visitors. Reproduced pen-and-ink sketches after the paintings show cattle under trees, harbor and shoreline views, moored fishing boats, and interior figure studies, all built from loose hatching with signed and dated corners useful as line-art vignettes and ground-and-sky textures.
