Stables, Gordon, 1840-1910, author · 1888 · London : Religious Tract Society, 56 Paternoster Row, 65 St. Paul's Churchyard and 164 Piccadilly · 17 pictures
A Victorian encyclopaedia of indoor games, handicrafts, home science and conjuring for boys, compiled by Gordon Stables and published by the Religious Tract Society in London in 1888. The plates are line engravings and diagrams: a corner-ornamented clock face with Roman numerals, a sundial hour-line chart, folded paper and funnel constructions, and a small marine steam engine drawn in outline with numbered figure captions, useful as instructional line art, mechanical detail and dial lettering.
