Innocentia vindicata : in qua gravissimis argumentis ex S. Thoma petitis ostenditur, angelicum doctorem pro Immaculato Conceptu Deiparae sensisse & scripsisse ...
A Latin theological treatise by Celestino Sfondrati arguing that Thomas Aquinas held the Immaculate Conception, printed in 1695 at the abbey press of St Gall for scholarly and monastic readers. The 133 pictures are woodcut printer's ornaments: symmetrical foliate headpieces, fruit-and-cornucopia tailpieces, parrots perched in scrolling vines, and initials built from flower-filled baskets, usable as borders, rules and drop caps.
