A needlework manual edited by George W. States and published by J. H. Keating in Boston in 1878, teaching lace stitches to home workers. The wood-engraved diagrams magnify single stitches, corner fillings and edging bands into dense line drawings of knotted and looped thread, useful as linear borders, grid fills and ornamental corner motifs.
