The intellectual rise in electricity; a history
Park Benjamin's 1895 history of electricity and magnetism, published in New York by D. Appleton for general and scientific readers, tracing early experiments from antiquity through the eighteenth century. Its reproduced woodcuts and engravings show costumed experimenters with sulphur globes, friction machines on benches, floating compass bowls, and diagrams of magnetic spheres labelled in Latin — usable as apparatus silhouettes, hatched line texture, and lettered scientific schematics.
