International studio
An illustrated art monthly, the American edition of London's The Studio, published in New York from 1897 for artists, collectors and designers following contemporary painting and the decorative arts. Pages carry halftone plates after oil paintings and drawings alongside pattern and ornament work: dark wooded landscapes, dim cottage interiors, cattle and figures at dusk, all in soft grey tonal blocks useful as atmospheric backgrounds and texture.
