International studio

1897 · New York · 295 pictures

The International Studio was the New York edition of the London art magazine The Studio, begun in 1897 and aimed at artists, collectors and decorators tracking contemporary painting, etching and applied design. Its plates are halftone and photogravure reproductions of exhibition work: tonal landscapes with heavy tree masses, thin-line etchings of harbours and riverbanks, and dark figure paintings, useful for soft grey backgrounds, sparse horizon compositions and etched linework.
