Ferguson, James, 1710-1776, Bayly, J., ill · 1770 · London : Printed for W. Strahan, and T. Cadell (successor to Mr. Milar,) in the Strand · 18 pictures

An eighteenth-century instructional treatise on electricity by the Scottish instrument maker and lecturer James Ferguson, published in London in 1770 for students and amateur experimenters, with plates engraved after J. Bayly. The copperplates set lettered diagrams of frictional electrical machines, Leyden jars, pulley trains, gear wheels and water-driven mills against blank ground, giving designers fine-line mechanical figures, keyed alphabets and ray-and-arc geometry to reuse.
