An introduction to the study of ancient and modern coins
A beginner's numismatic handbook by John Yonge Akerman, published in London by J. R. Smith in 1848 for collectors and antiquaries starting out with ancient Greek, Roman, and English coinage. The line engravings show obverse and reverse pairs joined by a bar, with beaded rims, crude profile heads, crosses, chalices, and lettering wrapped around the edge — useful for circular badges, monograms, and inscribed roundels.
