Johann Weyer's Latin treatise against witch persecution and demonic magic, De praestigiis daemonum, printed at Basel by the Oporinus press in 1568 for physicians, jurists and theologians. The pictures here are woodcut initial letters set in square blocks, white-line and outline foliage with curling vines, buds and grotesque faces, useful as drop caps, ornament tiles or border repeats.
