Iohannis de Brunes I.C. Emblemata of Zinne-werck : vorghestelt, in beelden, ghedichten, en breeder uijt-legginghen, tot uijt-druckinghe, en verbeteringhe van verscheijden feijlen onser eeuwe
A Dutch emblem book by the Zeeland jurist and moralist Johan de Brune, first issued in 1624 and reprinted in Amsterdam by Abraham Latham in 1661, pairing engraved emblems with verses and prose commentary on the faults of the age for a literate Protestant readership. The plates are small horizontal copper engravings of seventeenth-century domestic and street incidents — ruffed and hatted figures in tiled rooms, tables, beds, curtained interiors — interleaved with square woodcut initials filled with acanthus scrollwork and perched birds.
