Io. Mercerii I.C. Emblemata
A Latin emblem book by the jurist Jean Mercier, printed at Bourges in 1592 with copperplates signed by Queyr, addressed to learned readers who read mottoes, pictures and verse together. The plates are small framed scenes of single figures at work in open countryside with walled towns and hills behind, interleaved with a repeated grotesque headpiece of a horned mask flanked by winged beasts and scrolling foliage; useful for compact vignette frames, ornament strips and fine-line landscape hatching.
