Irish life and landscape
A survey of contemporary Irish painting assembled by J. Crampton Walker and issued by the Talbot Press in Dublin around 1900 for readers following the country's modern art. The 96 plates are monochrome halftone reproductions of oils and watercolours — bog and estuary flats, stone bridges, cottages under massed cloud, lone turf-cutters and shore figures — offering soft-edged tonal masses, low horizons and brushy skies for atmospheric backgrounds and muted landscape vignettes.
