Istoriia knigi Vizantiiskiia emali A.B. Zvenigorodskago
An 1898 St. Petersburg account by Vladimir Stasov of how Nikodim Kondakov's luxury folio on Aleksandr Zvenigorodsky's Byzantine cloisonné enamels was designed and printed, issued in small numbers for collectors, scholars and bibliophiles. The plates are grid arrangements of trial bindings, stamped covers, medallion saint portraits, lobed cartouches, diapered grounds and ornamental borders, some printed in pale ghostly tones, others in sharp black and white, offering frames, repeating patterns and roundel motifs.
