Bernardo Antonio Vittone's three-book treatise on civil architecture, printed at Lugano by the Agnelli press in 1760 as a teaching manual for young students of the discipline. The plates here are typographic ornaments: relief-cut headpieces of rococo cartouches flanked by flying putti, and vignettes stacking books, palm fronds and drawing instruments above a lozenge shield, usable as borders, rules and frames.
