Italian cities
A two-volume American travel and art-history account of Italian towns written by the muralist Edwin Howland Blashfield and his wife Evangeline, published by Scribner's in New York in 1903 for cultivated English-speaking travellers. The plates are halftone photographs of frescoes, altarpieces and painted vaults, dark and softly grained, showing robed saints, kneeling donors, putti among architectural niches, and patterned Renaissance textiles and borders usable as ornament sources.
