A Latin emblem book of moral and political maxims compiled by Jakob Bornitz and issued with engravings by Nicolaus Meerfeldt at Mainz in 1669 by the academic bookseller Ludwig Bourgeat, aimed at scholars and men in public office. Each plate is a roundel with its motto set in capitals around the rim, enclosing a small hatched scene of soldiers, rocky cliffs, walled towns, fields and single plants, useful for circular badge layouts, curved lettering bands and compact landscape vignettes.
