Christopher Dresser's 1882 survey of Japanese building, art and craft, published in London and New York for Western designers and manufacturers after his 1876 study tour. Line engravings record roof tiling, bracket clusters, gateways and painted panel borders in clean outline, with diaper patterns, wave scrolls and pendant ornament drawn flat enough to lift as repeatable motifs or frames.
