Joannis Ciampini Romani, magistri brevium gratiae ... Opera, in tres tomos distributa : acesserunt eiusdem Ciampini opuscula quaedam selectiora : item appendix, seu notae, in quibus nonnulla post eius obitum innovata recensentur : ac demum auctoris vita, nunc primùm ipsius operibus addita
Collected works of the Roman antiquarian Giovanni Giusto Ciampini, gathered posthumously in a 1747 Rome edition for clergy and scholars studying early Christian basilicas, with plates engraved by Arnold van Westerhout, Giovanni Battista Lenardi and Francesco Polanzani. The engravings copy apse and vault mosaics as flat diagrams: robed saints under palm trees, haloed processions, lambs on hillocks, jewelled borders and lattice grounds, often drawn as partial arcs with blank areas where the mosaic was lost, useful as ready-made frames, repeating bands and figure silhouettes.
