Jo. Danielis Schoepflini consil. reg. ac Franciæ historiogr. : vindiciæ typographicæ
A 1760 Latin treatise by the Strasbourg historiographer Johann Daniel Schoepflin, printed in Strasbourg by Johann Gottfried Bauer, arguing Gutenberg's and Strasbourg's claim to the invention of printing for antiquarians and scholars of early books. The plates reproduce specimens of fifteenth-century script and type in facsimile: gothic text lines, colophons, and cadel initials built from long looping pen strokes and cross-hatched shading, useful as calligraphic letterforms, flourish ornament, and blackletter texture.
