Winckelmann's history of ancient art, published in Dresden in 1764 for antiquarians, collectors and artists, with copperplate vignettes cut by Nicolas Mosmann and Michael Keyl after Greek and Roman gems, reliefs and statues. The plates are pure outline engraving: oval cameo frames around straining nudes, shallow relief friezes of gods and altars, sphinxes, column bases, painted vases and inscribed Greek letters.
