Joseph Pennell's pictures of the Panama canal: reproductions of a series of lithographs made by him on the isthmus of Panama, January-March, 1912
A 1912 Lippincott portfolio reproducing lithographs Joseph Pennell drew on the Isthmus of Panama between January and March of that year, issued in Philadelphia and London for a public following the canal's construction. The crayon drawings show steam shovels, spoil trains, lock walls and cut faces in smudged blacks on warm paper, useful for gritty industrial texture and steep plunging perspectives.
