A London trade journal, Journal of Domestic Appliances, issued by Sewell & Co. in 1881 for sewing-machine and household-appliance dealers and manufacturers. Wood-engraved advertising cuts show hand-crank sewing machines in profile, their cast-iron arms, flywheels and bases covered in scrolled ornament and pinstriping, useful for machine silhouettes, decorative cast-metal patterning and Victorian trade-catalogue layout.
