A manuscript whaling journal kept by Washington Fosdick aboard the New Bedford ship Saratoga under master Frederick Slocum, recording a Pacific voyage from April 1857 to December 1858 for the ship's owners and agents. The scans show brown-ink cursive in daily entries: dated headings, bracketed latitude and longitude lines, crossed-out words, and weather and course notes usable as script samples, textures, and ruled layouts.
