Kay's Edinburgh portraits : a series of anecdotal biographies chiefly of Scotchmen
A two-volume collection of anecdotal biographies edited by James Paterson from John Kay's late-eighteenth-century Edinburgh etchings, reissued in London in 1885 for antiquarians and readers of Scottish local history. The plates are full-length caricature portraits in fine etched line, figures in greatcoats, breeches and top hats set against bare grounds, plus oval bust portraits; useful for silhouetted period figures and hatching textures.
