Kay's Edinburgh portraits : a series of anecdotal biographies chiefly of Scotchmen
An 1885 London reprint of John Kay's late-eighteenth-century Edinburgh etchings, with anecdotal biographies by James Paterson and James Maidment, aimed at antiquarian readers curious about the city's lawyers, doctors, soldiers and eccentrics. The plates are full-length profile caricatures in fine etched line and stipple, figures in greatcoats, cocked hats, wigs and top boots standing against blank or lightly hatched ground, plus oval bust vignettes; useful for silhouette figures, period costume and isolated standing poses.
