Kunst und Künstler des 16., 17. und 18. Jahrhunderts : [Biographien und Charakteristiken
A German art-historical compilation of artist biographies and critical sketches covering the 16th to 18th centuries, written by Adolph Görling and published by E. A. Seemann in Leipzig in 1863 for educated German readers and art students. The plates are wood-engraved copies of Old Master paintings — crowded religious and domestic interiors, draped figure groups, deathbed and banquet scenes — with heavy cross-hatched shading, deep shadowed backgrounds and engraved painter-and-engraver credits along the plate edge; useful for figure groupings, drapery studies and tonal engraving texture.
