Ladies' fancy work ..
A manual of needlework patterns published by J. Fred Ingalls through the Phelps Publishing Co. in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1885, addressed to women working embroidery and canvas work at home. The plates are line diagrams of stitches on ruled grid grounds — lattices, zigzag bands, radiating star bursts and small floral sprigs — usable as repeat tiles, borders and geometric ornament.
