La gravure en pierres fines : camées et intailles
Ernest Babelon's 1894 survey of engraved gems, cameos and intaglios, published in Paris by Quantin as part of a series of illustrated handbooks on the decorative arts for collectors and students. The 137 line engravings reproduce oval and round gemstones in outline and fine hatching — profile heads, standing gods with attributes, crowded sacrificial groups, Gnostic figures with Greek inscriptions — several set in scrolling foliate or ribbon-and-flower mounts useful as medallion frames, seals and cartouche devices.
