L'ame amante de son Dieu, representée dans les emblémes de Hermannus Hugo sur ses pieux desirs: & dans ceux d'Othon Vaenius sur l'amour divin
An emblem book of 1717 from the Cologne press of J. de la Pierre, pairing Herman Hugo's Pia desideria with Otto van Veen's divine-love emblems in French, with mystical commentary associated with Jeanne Guyon, for devotional readers. Small copperplates signed by J. Smit show two winged children, one haloed with rays, acting out the soul's courtship in open landscapes with gnarled trees, hills, distant castles and foreground weeds.
