The landscape beautiful; a study of the utility of the natural landscape, its relation to human life and happiness
Frank A. Waugh's 1910 treatise from Orange Judd of New York argues for the everyday usefulness of natural scenery, written for landscape architects, gardeners and general readers. Its 47 halftone plates are soft-focus photographs of meadows, wooded shorelines, mist and water, printed in warm grays that give designers ready-made atmospheric backgrounds and low-contrast tonal textures.
