Landscape painting and modern Dutch artists
A 1906 volume of art appreciation by the Montreal collector E. B. Greenshields, issued in New York by Baker & Taylor, discussing landscape painting and the Hague School painters for collectors and gallery-going readers. The plates are halftone reproductions of oil landscapes, captioned with artist and owner, dominated by soft grey tonal masses: moonlit water, mist over trees, cattle at dusk, dawn fields, useful as ready-made atmospheric backgrounds and grainy tonal textures.
