La paysane pervertie, ou Les dangers de la ville : histoire d'Ursule R**, sur d'Edmond, le paysan, mise-au-jour d'après les véritables lettres des personages ...
An epistolary novel of 1784 by Restif de La Bretonne, tracing a peasant girl's ruin in Paris, printed for the Parisian trade by the widow Duchesne with plates designed by Louis Binet and engraved by Berthet and Giraud. The copperplates stage melodrama in cramped interiors and night streets — an abduction beside a coach, a swoon on a cellar floor, a crowd around a body, a bedroom confrontation — and supply 1780s dress, ruffled gowns, tricorns, lantern-lit stonework, and tightly grouped gesturing figures in strong light and shade.
