La peinture française au XIXe siècle

Besson, George, 1882-1971 · 1900 · Paris : Braun · 24 pictures

A French survey of nineteenth-century French painting written by George Besson and issued in Paris by the art publisher Braun for collectors and students of the Barbizon and Impressionist generations. The plates are monochrome halftone reproductions of paintings and oil sketches: river mouths with moored sailing barges, windmills against open sky, marshy fields, and wooded roads, all soft-edged tonal grey washes usable as atmospheric backgrounds.
