La peinture : poëme en trois chants
Antoine-Marin Le Mierre's didactic poem on painting in three cantos, published in Paris in 1769 for readers of art theory and verse, with plates designed by Charles-Nicolas Cochin and engraved by his circle. The engravings are allegorical figure groups in classical drapery — winged genii ascending through clouds, seated muses with urns and easels, a laurel-wreathed oval portrait of Corneille — all set within ruled borders and beaded ornamental frames.
