Claude-François Menestrier's 1682 Paris treatise on devices and emblems, published by Robert J.B. de la Caille for scholars of heraldry, symbolism and occult imagery. The pictures here are letterpress ornament: square typographic blocks of mirrored scrollwork, a foliate headpiece band with a rose and acanthus, and initial capitals filled with leaves and blossoms, usable as borders, rules and drop caps.
