Giovanni Maria Ciocchi's verse treatise on painting, printed in Florence by Michele Nestenus in 1725 for readers in the academic art world. The plates here are letterpress woodcut headpieces, tailpieces and rules: symmetrical acanthus scrolls, rosettes, flower sprays and fleurons in heavy black line, printed over show-through text, usable as borders, dividers and repeating strip patterns.
