La R. Galleria Estense in Modena
Adolfo Venturi's 1882 catalogue of the Galleria Estense in Modena, printed by P. Toschi for art historians, curators and collectors documenting the ducal picture collection. The plates are outline reproductions of Italian paintings — enthroned Madonnas with saints, crowded coronation scenes, an allegorical frontispiece with a Latin tablet, temple, and putti — drawn in thin contour with sparse hatching, giving designers clean figure groups and ornamental frames that reproduce well at any size.
