L'art de faire et d'employer le vernis, ou, L'art du vernisseur, auquel on a joint ceux du peintre et du doreur ...
A French trade manual of 1772 on varnishing, house painting and gilding, written by the Paris colour-and-varnish merchant Jean-Félix Watin and printed by Quillau for craftsmen and suppliers. The plates shown are typographic ornament rather than technique: woodcut headpieces with flanking baskets of flowers and an oval landscape, an inhabited initial L containing a village, an engraved flower-basket tailpiece with scrollwork, and a circular emblem of a compass on a frame with motto ribbons and a rayed sun.
