A French handbook on recognising the Louis XIII style, written by Emile Bayard and published in Paris by Garnier frères in 1920 for students, collectors and decorators. Halftone photographs and engraved plates show carved chimneypieces, broken pediments, cartouches, putti, monstrances and furniture, giving designers heavy scrollwork frames, swag-and-mask ornament and silhouettes of early seventeenth-century architectural detail.
