L'art des emblemes;
A 1662 treatise on emblem design by the Jesuit scholar Claude-François Menestrier, printed in Lyon by Benoist Coral with plates after Thomas Blanchet, addressed to heralds, poets and device-makers. Engraved emblems set allegorical figures on craggy rocks, crowned columns and fountains, alongside woodcut vignettes with motto banderoles, trophies of arms and foliate initials useful as frames, marks and ornament.
