A technical manual on embroidery by Charles Germain de Saint-Aubin, designer to Louis XV, printed in Paris in 1770 for the Académie des Sciences series on trades, aimed at embroiderers and craft readers. Engraved plates show keyed line diagrams of scrolling foliate borders, flower sprays, tassels and stitch samplers, giving designers clean outline ornament and repeatable border motifs.
