L'art du dix-huitième siècle
Edmond and Jules de Goncourt's study of eighteenth-century French art, published in Paris by Rapilly in 1873 for collectors, critics and print amateurs. The plates here are square woodcut initials — white letters reserved against dense stippled black grounds filled with scrolling foliage, urns, rosettes and fleur-de-lis sprays — usable as drop caps, monograms or tile motifs.
