A French technical manual of 1774 by Jean-Félix Watin, printed in Paris by Grangé, instructing house painters, gilders and varnishers along with amateurs working on buildings, furniture, jewellery and carriages. The plates here are small letterpress woodcut ornaments: symmetrical acanthus-and-flower tailpieces, sprays of roses and bellflowers, and a half-length figure amid foliage, all in coarse black line suited to reuse as spot ornaments, dividers and chapter endings.
