L'art du rire et de la caricature
Arsène Alexandre's survey of comic drawing and caricature, published in Paris by Quantin in 1892 for French art readers and collectors. Its 336 plates reproduce lithographs, pen sketches and wood engravings by many hands: street pairs in top hats, grotesque dancing figures, salon and stage scenes, offering loose hatched line work, exaggerated silhouettes and single-figure cutouts.
