L'art religieux du XIIe siècle en France : étude sur les origines de l'iconographie du moyen age
Émile Mâle's 1922 study of twelfth-century French religious art, published in Paris by Armand Colin for art historians and students of medieval iconography. The 250 halftone plates photograph Romanesque tympana, capitals, portal reliefs and ivories, giving designers figure groups under arches, Christ in mandorla, foliate borders and carved lintel friezes with strong light-and-shadow modelling.
