Las antigvedades de las civdades de España : que van nombradas en la Coronica, con la aueriguacion de sus sitios, y nõbres antiguos
Ambrosio de Morales's antiquarian survey of the Roman antiquities of Spanish cities, printed at Alcalá de Henares in 1575 for scholars reading alongside his chronicle of Spain. The woodcuts reproduce Latin inscriptions set into carved stone frames: volute capitals, stepped plinths and acanthus feet, with borders of egg-and-dart, guilloche and interlocking rings that work as ready-made cartouches and rules.
