An Italian emblem book and dialogue by Gabriele Simeoni, printed at Lyon by Guillaume Rouillé in 1560 for humanist readers and courtly patrons, with sections on the site of Gergovia and Auvergne antiquities. Each woodcut sets a device—arrows, monograms, arms, landscape fragments—inside an oval ruled frame wrapped in lettered ribbon scrolls, surrounded by grotesque borders of crescents, stars, putti heads, candelabra and strapwork, offering ready-made cartouches, banners and motto-bearing scrolls.
