La sphére du monde, selon l'hypothèse de Copernic ... décrite, démontrée, & comparée avec les sphéres & les systèmes de Ptolomée, & de Tyco-Brahé
A French treatise on the Copernican sphere by the abbé Pierre Le Lorrain de Vallemont, printed in Paris by P. Marchand in 1707 to explain and compare the systems of Copernicus, Ptolemy and Tycho Brahe for educated general readers. The plates here are printers' ornaments rather than diagrams: engraved headbands of acanthus scrollwork framing a crown or fleur-de-lis shield, allegorical figures flanking a sunburst, and a phoenix rising from flames with a lettered ribbon, some signed by Bernard Picart, useful as rule-bordered header strips, cartouches and emblem motifs.
